“I don’t often sell sketches, but this one lives. Was super depressed one day while my own mother lay in bed in between chemotherapy treatments. The strong and deep questions within the eyes of the subject I’d dreamt up (and drawn down) had given me voice, so she managed to bring two songs with her. The first : “The Breathing Song,” is a selah meditation, and the second : a beautiful rendition of Donny Hathaway’s “Song For You,” on which I played guitar and sung layers of harmony beneath the voice of the inimitable Averis I.
